This past week I enjoyed teaching the New River Academy leadership class international logistics. A favorite topic was international communication. Technology has made it convenient and inexpensive for the well-informed traveler to communicate internationally. Lets explore a few tips that have helped our program keep in close contact with families as we explore the world.

Traveling may change your perspective in ways you never would have imagined.
Safety at New River Academy

While being based in Choshuenco, Chile the group took a day off from running waterfalls on the upper, and surfing the waves of the lower to get a safety lesson. Fergus Coffey from Expeditions Chile (http://www.exchile.com/) was our teacher, as he boasts an impressive knowledge of river safety. Big thanks to Fergus for taking the time to teach us.

Note: You will notice low water plans. I believe in preparing for the worse and improving. Scout reports are indicating a good snow year with dramatically early snow melts causing low levels. EG: Jon Clarke (NOC International Guide and Futaleafu property owner, “The Futa is already at March levels.. Pucon may be your saving grace.”
With that said you will notice “low water plans”. Kyle and I will be in Chile prior to the trip and will finalize the options upon visual inspection just days prior to student arrival.
