Survival Class Builds Debris Hut

In survival class we learned to make a debris hut. If you are out in the woods without a tent or any kind of shelter this is a very useful skill to know. It keeps you warm at night without the necessity of a fire, and can keep you dry in the worst of weathers. There are a few different types of debris huts all varying for different climates.
There is no one way to make a debris hut. You can change different parts of it as long as the concept stays the same. First you need to Y sticks. A Y stick is a stick that splits in to two points at the end. These sticks should be around four feet long. Then you need one stick around 10 feet long. Prop the two Y sticks up against each other so they will not fall over and are able to hold a bit of wait pushing downward. Then prop the 10 foot long stick up against these forming a tent like shelter with a triangular door. Next you will need to prop sticks up against the 10 foot stick forming a steep roof all along it.
To cover the shelter you will need a lot of leaves. Pile around 3 feet of leaves all over the shelter leaving a little hole for the opening. Next to add insulation pile even more leaves inside the shelter filling it all the way to the brim. Next you will need a plug for your door to keep all the hot air in and the cold air out. Grab another pile of leaves close enough to your door so you can grab it when you are inside and beg enough so that it will completely block out the light.
You are done with your shelter. Test it a little to make sure it is sturdy, and then crawl in. You should be completely surrounded by leaves. Grab your plug, fill the doorway, and settle in for a nice long sleep. You can use the leaves as a pillow. Know the only thing you have to worry about is sleeping late.
These shelters can be modified almost any way you want. You can add a room in front of it by building a basic support and pilling leaves on the out side. And then when you are ready for bead just climb back in. The leaves should keep the rain off but if it is still getting through pile more leaves on the out side.
