Is now the time to apply?

This essay details aspects to review as you consider, “which year to attend New River Academy.” As the director of the New River Academy, each year I observe many parents postponing their child’s enrollment until their senior years for various logical reasons.

Freshman Isaac Holden takes advantages of leadership growth, academic challenges, and training opportunities.

To truly answer the question, “Is now the time?” families should be aware of some factors that can ultimately change the direction of an adolescent’s life. The following are observations to consider:
• Is your child passionate to kayak now? A more concerning question is, “Will my child be passionate later and what course will his high school career take regarding academics, peer pressures, social activities, and athletics?” If your child is passionate about kayaking now, then they are in a good place mentally and will continue to be under New River Academy’s positive influence. Too often we observe students who lose their passion, become involved with typical peer pressures, and perform poorly in school. At this point your child’s priorities have changed.
“Students should attend when they are passionate about kayaking, exploring, and learning. Do not make the mistake of postponing your child’s passion and try to rekindle their enthusiastic spirit by sending them when it is too late.”
• “My child is not mature enough to appreciate this experience.” This theory is stating, “I am going to push back my child’s maturity growth.” New River Academy thrives on teaching adolescents life experiences, instilling accountability, and leading students through positions of leadership. Group roles and program aspects are designed to offer students leadership positions and teach accountability. The parents who enroll their children during freshman years observe a shocking improvement regarding character development.
• “We want to focus on academics this year and will send her later.” New River Academy’s high-level of education is often one of the most shocking aspects to new students and parents. New River Academy seeks students with academic priorities. Students receive individual instruction in a consistent structured environment. We recommend you request to speak with student and parent references regarding academic integrity, and consider the individual educational value of your child in a class of 2 or 3 students with an inspiring young teacher.
• “It is her junior year and we are focusing on college applications.” This is where New River Academy places our students at the biggest advantage over both public and private school systems. What steps will New River Academy take to earn your college acceptance letter? Our SAT prep course improves SAT scores by an average of 150 points, New River Academy employs an experienced college applications administrator to lead students through the tedious application process, teachers work with students on essays and interview processes, and service and leadership projects illustrate to colleges “persons of substance and character.”
• “He can kayak his senior year when he will be more competitive.” Sorry, but do not expect your child to be competitive in the freestyle kayaking Junior Class with only one year of formal training.
• “We are not certain whether her education will be better with New River Academy or our local school?” New River Academy was designed to give students options to make their own decisions, to offer an inspirational education in a positive environment, to explore various cultures, and of course to enjoy kayaking in a safe setting. When you enroll your son/daughter at New River Academy you will be proud of your child’s accomplishments and the education earned.
New River Academy students have made an impressive showing on the college level, attending such schools as:
• Harvard University
• The University of Georgia
• Virginia Tech
• George Washington University
• Warren Wilson College
• Belmont University
• The University of Puget Sound
• Boise State
• College of Charleston
• University of North Carolina
• Albertsons College
• Colorado College
• Sewanee
• Dartmouth College

Place your child at a serious advantage to their peers and in life by enrolling for an earlier year.
