Athletics and Kayak Coaching. Physical Education goes Whitewater!
Athletics: Our primary athletic goal is to teach the values of: good sportsmanship, goal setting, determination, dedication, introspection, self-reflection, teamwork, group safety, adaptability, emotional resilience, mental and physical strength, and respect for the natural environment.
Our athletics are at the core of the New River Academy education. Daily, students and faculty have morning workouts. We feel this improves the entire day.
And parents are amazed by the difference in physical appearance of their child after even a semester.
We train in our kayaks sometimes 6 days per week. We actually have to make a point not to paddle in order to not wear too much on our bodies. When we are not paddling we love to play ultimate. Other activities include hiking, mountain biking, running,...
Recently, we began a sports nutrition course. We hope this has more motivational value than required health courses. Now, our students will learn the effects of varying nutrients on the body. Plus, we are not only going to make them eat healthy we are going to teach them how to prepare it. A parents dream come true.
